Assessment of Efficacy of Photoactivated Disinfection versus Triple antibiotic paste Disinfection in Regeneration of immature infected teeth. (comparative in vivo study )

Abstract

The aim of our study was to assess disinfection efficacy of photo-activated disinfection versus triple antibiotic disinfection and in combination with each other. Our study included 30 patients aged from 9 to 15 years with immature necrotic anterior teeth, Cases were divided equally into 3 groups according to method of disinfection; Group I, Group II and Group III disinfected using TAP, PAD and combination of both respectively, after disinfection period all cases undergo further regeneration steps. Cases were followed on regular intervals up to 12 months clinically and radio-graphically. Clinical evaluation included history taking and clinical examination regarding presence or absence of periapical pain, swelling or sinus tract. Clinical follow up showed that all cases were asymptomatic, functional, and irresponsive to hot test throughout the follow up period. Some cases experienced mild pain or discomfort for few days postoperatively. Radiographic evaluation included measurement of change in root length, thickness and apical diameter of standardized radiographs. Data were collected and tabulated for statistical analysis.

Our results showed that there was no significant difference between groups regarding increase in length, all groups showed steady increase in length without significant difference between them. Our results showed that For root length all groups showed steady increase in length without significant difference between them but samples treated with TAP & PAD showed higher mean increase of length.
