UNEXPLAINED VISUAL LOSS IN INFANTS

Diena Mohamed Kamel Gaber Baghdady;

Abstract

There are some conditions characterised by distinct diminution of vision although by ophthalmoscopic examination they appear normal. It is essential to detect the cause of this visual loss early in infancy as this represents the critical period of maturation of vision. These diseases can be classified to functional such as amblyopia, delayed visual maturation and organic such as leber's congenital amaurosis, congenital stationary night blindness. The most prominent means of screening can be achieved by using the ERG and the VEP.
