THE ADVANTAGES OF THE LARYNGEAL MASK VERSUS TRACHEAL TUBE IN CHILDREN

Ahmed Ibrahim Morsy;

Abstract

It is a well recognized fact that laryngoscopy and tracheal intubation produce a group of hemodynamic upsets, including tachycardia, hype1tension and cardiac dysrrhythmias.
LMA was introduced by Dr. Brain in 1988. In addition to its relative ease of insertion, the LMA avoids the need for laryngoscopy and tracheal intubation, hence it could be associated with less hemodynamic responses.
The ann of the present work was to compare the effects of LMA
versus endotracheal tube in peri-operative period in children.
This study was carried out in the mam Alexandria University Hospital on forty children, their ages ranged between 2 and 6 years. The patients were randomly classified into two groups twenty patients each :
Group I : ETT was used
Group II : LMA was used.
A naestltetic management :
Evaluation of patients was carried out through proper history taking, thorough clinical examination and laboratory investigations to ensure that they were free from cardiovascular and respiratory diseases. All children were premedicated with oral diazepam 0.1 -0.15 mg!kg and oral atropine 0.02 mglkg 60-90 minutes before induction of anaesthesia.
