ENDOUROLOGICAL TREATMENT OF UPPER URETERIC CALCULI
HESHAM MOHAMED EL-AZABY;
Abstract
Fifty patients with upper two third ureteric calculi were subjected to endourological procedures using retrograde stone flushing. All patients were subjected to percutaneous nephrostomy either for PCNL for cases with successful retrograde flushing technique or antegrade renoureteroscopy for cases with failed retrograde flushing and in whom flushing was not attempted because of non visualized. ureteric orifice.
Thirty seven patients were males (74%) and thirteen were females (26%). Their ages ranged from 15 to 68 years and average age was 41 years old. Forty two patients (84%) presented by flank pain, six patients (12%) by urosepsis and in two patients (4%) stones were discovered accidentaly during plain abdominal x-ray.
The stones were located in the upper 113 ureter in 40 patients (70%), middle 1/3 ureter in 9 patients (18%) and in both upper and •. middle 1/3 of the same side in one patient (2%). In seven patients ureteral stones were associated with renal stones which were removed during the same sitting.
