CLINICO -PATHOLOGICAL STUDY OF ORAL MANIFESTATIONS IN PATIENTS UNDER LONG - TERM HEMODIALYSIS

Abstract


This study comprised 30 patients with CRF admitted to Tanta University Hospital and Dialysis Center. Ten patients under conservative treatment (drug and diet control ) were evaluated before dialysis (group I) , I 0 patients after short term dialysis (group II) and 10 patients after long term dialvsis (groupiii) .
This work was canied out to identify the clinical , radiographical and histopathological alteration of soft and hard oral tissues as a result of CRF and dialysis .
Each patient subjected to full history taking with emphasis on etiological factors of CRF , onset and duration of dialysis and any medication taken before and during dialysis .
Routine laboratory investigations was pelformed including unne analysis serum creatinin, BUN and saHvary urea.
Clinical examination including extra and intra oral examination \\"as performed.
Plaque Index ( PL I ) and Gingival Index ( G I ) were petformed for evaluation of oral hygiene status and gingival inflammation.
Radiographic examination including periapical films were done to examine any changes in the teeth and bone of the Jaws .
For histological study , biopsy specimens were taken from the affected site of the gingiva , stained with ordinary H. and E. stain , Congo Red stain
