STUDY OF PLASMA CONCENTRATION OF ATRIAL NATRIURETIC PEPTIDE IN ADULT PATIENTS WITH CHRONIC RENAL FAILURE BEFORE AND AFTER HAEMODIALYSIS

Amal El Ssayed Mahmoud Hammad;

Abstract

ANP 1s a primary candidate for a new and important hormonal system.
Thus it is released from a glandular site, namely the heart. atria. It
1s found within ultrastructural granules in the atrial that anatomically resemble secretory granules of the endocrine tissues.
The detection of circulating IR-ANP in plasma and the identification of renal, vascular, adrenal and brain receptors for IR-ANP furnish strong evidence that ANP is a hormone.
It is now evident that this new hormone has a wide variety of actions with general implication in the control of vascular tone, sodium and water balance, hormonal secretion as well a neuronal functions.
Secretion of ANP could facilitate natriuresis and lower blood pressure under abnormal conditions but it was reporetd that ANP are not potent natriuretic substances under normal physiological conditions.
Although it is likely that they exert a modulating influence on sodium excretion. Also ANP is involved in the maintenance of haemodynamic homeostasis under physiological conditions.
