Abstract

Twelve controlled diabetic patients were selected from The National Diabetes Institute , Cairo and were divided into two equal groups. The first group received complete overdentures retained by rigid stud attachment, while the second group received complete overdentures retained by resilient stud attachment .
• The effect of both types of attachments on the supporting structures of the abutments in both groups was evaluated and compared both clinically and radiographically at denture insertion and after 3, 6, 9 and 12 months.
• Clinical evaluation involved:
o Gingival index scores.
o Probing depth measurements.
• Radiographic evaluation involved:
o Marginal bone height changes around the abutments ( mesial and distal sides).
o Bone density changes around the abutments (mesial and distal sides ).
• On analyzing the obtained data the following results were achieved:
o There was no significant change in the mean gingival index scores and
•probing depth measurements throughout the follow-up period.
o There was no significant difference between the effect of both attachments on the abutments as regard gingival index and probing depth measurements throughout the different time intervals of the study.
