VNG Findings in Patients with Age Related Ischemic Changes
Amany Mohamed Abo El-Khair;
Abstract
izziness and imbalance are one of the most common complaints in elderly. However, it’s unknown yet whether to consider the disequilibrium as a normal aging phenomenon, the result of unidentified neuropathology, or a combination of the two.
Gait and balance dysfunction in elderly is usually associated with gradual onset of cerebral white matter disease.
Positioning &/ or positional nystagmus are frequently encountered in the VNG test in elderly patient”. It is not known whether these findings are related to the ageing process or the radiological findings in the elderly or not.
To the best of authors’ knowledge, there is limited researches examined the relation between age related ischemic changes as a radiological findings in MRI and the vestibular findings detected by VNG in elderly patients complaining of dizziness and / or imbalance. Therefore the present study is designed to evaluate vestibular findings using VNG in elderly patients and its relation to white matter changes detected by MRI.
The aim of the present study is to investigate the relationship between presence and / or absence of white matter lesions identified on magnetic resonance imaging with the vestibular findings in elderly patients with dizziness.
