Abstract
The luminous yarn is one of the innovative luminous materials, which can be applicable in the textile industry since it is a chemically treated polyester yarns to absorb light and emit it in the dark. Furthermore, there are other luminous materials applied in the field of textiles such as the optical yarns but they need a due care and high skillful workers to deal with them when weaving and washing after that, especially because they are made of fine glass and containing easy to break electrical circuits. Therefore, there was a need for yarns able to give the lighting effect in the dark and that can be easily woven and washed after that. Previous trials took place to integrate the luminous yarns into fabrics by embroidering them, but still inserting them in the process of weaving needs some further study. Researches and studies have been done on the yarns to measure their suitability and tolerance towards the various factors that are supposed to be encountered during the weaving and fabric manufacturing processes and the results showed good stability and properties,
The luminosity feature is obtained by adding the rare-earth strontium aluminate powder to the polymer by a melt spinning process to emit light in the dark after storing energy from different light sources. The strontium aluminate is activated by the divalent europium and the fiber possess distinctive features such as emitting light in the dark with a relatively long afterglow and not only providing a decorative effect but also improving vision in the dark and other protective functions. The luminous products can be widely used in many commercial applications, such as costuming, night work clothes, light plush toys, embroidery products,
