Abstract


Early pregnancy loss is a common obstetric complication and is often preceded by vaginal bleeding. It is estimated that as many as 12% to 15% of all clinically recognizable pregnancies and up to 22% of all pregnancies end in miscarriage.
The current study was conducted to prove the role of vaginal blood alpha-fetoprotein as a marker for detection of early inter-uterine pregnancy failure.
This cross-sectional study was conducted at Ain Shams University Maternity Hospital during a period of time from February 2020 to September 2020.
A total of 30 pregnant women with possible early pregnancy failure and cerclage group were included in this study. This study was done after approval of the ethical committee of the department of obstetrics and gynecology, faculty of medicine, Ain Shams University. Informed consent was taken from all participants before recruitment in the study, and after explaining the purpose and procedures of the study.
