Milad Khair Makram Yousif;

Abstract

tudies showed that hip arthroplasty is a good option for treatment of failed intertrochanteric fixation.
The results of this study may assist many surgeons in their salvege procedures after failed IT fixation to know how far the effectivenss of the operation and to predect serious complications.
Studies reported that revision of internal fixation for nonunited intertrochanteric fractures have been reported to have good results in younger patients with good bone stock (66,67).
In elder patients with poor bone quality and degenerative acetabular changes, hip arthroplasty has been advocated as a salvage procedure (5).
There have been a number of technical issues to convert these fractures into hip arthroplasty such as extraction of implants, bone deformity, bone loss, poor bone quality and associated trochanteric nonunion (68,69).
Owing to these challenges, conversion arthroplasty has been associated with increased risk of perioperative morbidity,prolonged operative times, increased blood loss, intraoperative fracture, and early dislocation (70,71).
