Immunohistochemical Estimation of Progesterone Receptors in Endometrial Hyperplasia And Endometrial Carcinoma
Khaled Abd El-Hady Abd El-Aziem;
Abstract
The present thesis was done on a total of 65 cases of endometrial
hyperplasia and carcinoma, diagnosed at Kasr El-Aini Hospital, either
from dilatation and curettages or hysterectomies. The study involved 25 cases of simple hyperplasia, I 0 cases of complex hyperplasia, 10 cases of
hyperplasia with atypia and 20 cases of endometrial carcinoma including
14 cases endometrioid carcinoma, 2 cases squamous cell carcinoma, 2
cases of papillary carcinoma and 2 cases of undifferentiated carcinoma.
All these cases were subjected to haematoxylin and eosin histopathological examination and immunohistochemical study for
progesterone receptors.
In this thesis cases of endometrial hyperplasia (45 cases)showed
that the mean age incidence for simple hyperplasia was 46.5 years, for complex hyperplasia it was 47.5 years, for simple atypical hyperplasia
(with focal or diffuse atypia) it was 55.5years and for complex
hyperplasia with atypia it was 53years. Concerning the mean age for endometrial carcinoma, this study showed that the mean age for
endometrioid adenocarcinoma was 57.5 years, for squamous cell
carcinoma and papillary serous carcinoma was 70 years and for
undifferentiated carcinoma, it was 65 years.Age distribution in cases of
endometrial hyperplasia and endometrial carcinoma showed that endometrial carcinoma occurred in age groups higher than those of
endometrial hyperplasia and the difference was statistically significant
(P<0.001).
The results of this study showed that more clinically aggressive
twnors (squamous cell carcinoma and undifferentiated carcinoma)
occurred in older age groups. Furthermore the present study showed
that the older the age, the higher the grade of the tumor.
