Abstract
Although Egypt has a competitive ability in the production and export of fruit crops (oranges, grapes, mangoes), the quantities exported is fluctuating from year to year. Moreover, the Egyptian trade balance suffers from a chronic deficit, the agricultural sector contributes only with 10.7% in 2017 from the total Egyptian exports, while in 2004 it was about 14.3%. Moreover, the proportion of agricultural exports to total exports has been fluctuating between the increase and decrease during the period 2004- 2017, ranging from a minimum of about 6.2% in 2006, to a maximum of about 14.4% in 2004, indicating a weak contribution of agricultural exports to total exports.
The main objective of this paper is to study the competitiveness of those crops in foreign markets by identifying the production and export capacity of the studied crops, studying the structure of Egypt's total foreign trade and agricultural trade, the total trade and agricultural balance, studying the international trade and the competitiveness of the studied crops in the most important import markets. In addition to studying the competitiveness of fruit crops under study in the most important import markets, identifying the determinants of demand for Egyptian exports from the studied crops in the most important import markets.
Descriptive and quantitative economic analysis as well as standard economic analysis are used in the study using simple regression to identify the general direction of the economic phenomena under study while analyzing the gradual decline to identify the most important economic determinants affecting agricultural exports of studied crops using some competitiveness indicators such as apparent comparative advantage, price comparative
