A BIOPHARMACEUTICAL STUDY OF THE TRANSPORT OF CERTAIN DRUGS THROUGH SYNTHETIC AND BIOLOGICAL MEMBRANES
Abeer Ahmed mohamed kassem;
Abstract
The thesis falls in about 172 pages and contains 28 tables, 24 graphs,
and 204 references. It is divided into a general introduction and two
parts.
The introduction includes a literature survey of the different types of biological and synthetic membranes; their nature, structure and function. It includes as well mechanisms of transport of drugs through these membranes and its relation to different routes of administration.
The work in the first part of this thesis aimed at the study of the impact of the relationship between-the physicochemical properties of drugs and
the nature and structure of different types of biological membranes - on its transport there through. Moreover it aimed at the study of means to overcome the restrictive factors of passive transport through lipoidal
membranes.
The model drug in this part was selected on the basis that it is water
soluble, widely used and until now it is administered only by injection to
exert its therapeutic action. It is the polypeptide blood glucose controlling hormone "insulin".
