Abstract

Environmentalists and decision-makers today face new and complex
environmental challenges that affect human life. So, there is a need for a new
interdisciplinary scientific tools and approaches to achieve sustainable
solutions to protect human beings and their environment and to meet the
challenges of the 21st century by understanding and managing the complexities
of current and future problems.

Traditional problem-solving approaches that rely on linear thinking focused
on a sequence of cause-and-effect linearity have become inadequate and
ineffective to address such complexities. System thinking is therefore viewed
as an approach or method of problem solving as a scientific approach that
begins with the whole and takes into account complex relationships as well as
variables for complex and social issues. The systems thinking approach
depends on studying and seeing "problems" as parts of a holistic system rather
than responding to certain parts, outputs, or events that may contribute to the
creation of unintended consequences.

If the educational system is in charge of building the minds of individuals
who can interact with the requirements of the age and deal with the problems
of tomorrow, and even able to create a better future for itself and its
community, so it must be reflected on the tools and programs. As
environmental education is the primary driver for developing individuals'
awareness of the environment, their systems, problems and issues, and
addressing their problems, it is important to adopt a study of the methods and
systems approach that encourage students to practice a set of habits and
practices known as the habits of systems thinking.

The objectives of environmental education are not limited to the
development of individuals' awareness only, but also to the formation of
attitudes towards the environment and to environmental behavior and also the
development of environmental responsibility. Which eventually produce
responsible environmental behaviors that emerge through the individual's
actions in his environment and daily life, enable him to maintain environmental
resources for him and for future generations. Therefore, the development of
environmental responsibility of the individual is very important and can only
come through the adoption of modern methods and effective contribute to build
a generation capable of positive interaction with ecosystems, and a generation
of concepts, values, attitudes and skills, which allows him to understand the
systems relationships that connects the human and its civilization to the
environment in which it lives.
