The Effect of Deferoxamine on Irradiation Induced Oral Mucositis in Albino Rats )Histological and Immunohistochemical Study(
Maryam Salah Ibrahim;
Abstract
One of the most common side effects that follows radiotherapy is OM which can widely affect patient quality of life and health care cost. Many researches work attempt at discovering effective treatment for this common problem because most of current treatments are considered palliative. DFO which is used as an iron chelator drug for treatment of conditions with iron overload showed regenerative, antioxidant and angiogenic capabilities enabling it for being a good treatment option for such cases.
Aim of the study
The aim of the study was to evaluate the effect of DFO on irradiation-induced OM in rats’ ventral surface of the tongue histologically and immunohistochemically.
Study methodology
Eighty-four male Albino rats (weighting between 200-250 gm each) were used in this study.
