Abstract

Adenoid hypertrophy is a common problem frequently encountered by practitioners especially in the field of pediatric otorhinolaryngology. Symptoms mainly are due to nasal obstruction caused by the large adenoids and their effect as a septic focus in the body and on the surrounding structures.

Revision adenoidectomy isn't uncommon. The underlying cause of adenoidal hypertrophy is unknown but is likely multifactorial. Previously associated risk factors for hypertrophied adenoids include allergic rhinitis, mold sensitivity, tobacco smoke exposure, poly-microbial infection, and abnormal mucociliary clearance. Association between adenoidal hypertrophy and gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD) has also been noted in the literature.
The preferred surgical technique for adenoidectomy has evolved with time. It has previously been suggested
