الكويت وحرب الخليج الأولى ( الحرب العراقية الإيرانية ) (1980-1988م)

نايف عيد هجاج عياد ماطر العازمي;

Abstract

This study analyzes the Kuwaiti position on the international and Arab levels on the one hand, and on the official and popular levels on the other hand, regarding the events that took place on the Gulf arena from 1980 to 1988. The study also identifies the background and causes of the Kuwaiti position, and the various dimensions associated with it. The importance of the study lies in the light of its handling of the deep and rooted relations between the Kuwaiti and Iraqi peoples in a critical period of contemporary Arab history.
The Iraq-Iran war has created many consequences which affect the political, economic, cultural, military and social fields of both countries. These consequences were not limited to Iraq and Iran only, but also spread to the countries of the region, and surpassed them to many countries of the world. Therefore, it is inappropriate to limit these consequences to both sides of the war. The war broke out on the borders of the Arab Gulf region, which is one of the most strategically important regions in the world, given its important geographic location and huge reserves of oil. Considering this, it cannot be denied the tremendous effects resulting from this war on the countries of the region, especially neighboring countries such as Kuwait.
