Abstract


Teratogenic agents is one of the important problems a worldwide, it is a leading cause of congenital anomalies and malformations. Teratogens include a medicinal product or other chemical agent, an infectious agent,a medical condition, an environmental toxin or genetic disorder. Teratogens effect on the embryo or fetus Depending on the duration of exposure, the amount of teratogenic substance, and the stage of embryo development during the exposure. Teratogens has adverse effect on the the pregnant women such as preterm labors, spontaneous abortions, and also affect her fetus by causing permanent structural or functional malformations or death of the embryo or fetus.

Children born with congenital anomalies might have lifelong physical, mental, visual, and auditory disabilities if not managed appropriately, which can negatively affect the human and economic life of the person concerned, as well as their families and communities. Antenatal care is more vital for early diagnosis and proper treatment so it is important to increase knowledge and improve practice for the prevention of teratogenic agents exposure during pregnancy.
