Role of MRI-DWI in Post Therapy Follow Up of Non Operable Cervical Cancer Patient

Ahmed Hussein Saad Zaghloul;

Abstract

ervical cancer is the fourth most common cancer in women worldwide At present, magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) is the most widely used imaging modality in initial staging of uterine cervical cancer.
With advances in MR techniques, DWI is widely included as a routine sequence in imaging protocol of the female pelvis. The clinical application of DWI to cervical cancer has been investigated in many studies. Previous studies demonstrated that ADC value could be useful for differentiating cervical cancer from normal cervix especially in early stages.
Assessment of response to therapy would allow clinicians to optimize individual patient treatment and avoid unnecessary systemic toxicity, expense, and treatment delays.
In our study, we assessed changes in DWIs represented by mean ADC value between pre- and post-therapy images.
Our study showed highly significant difference between pre and post therapy ADC value, being increased in post therapy images.
It also showed highly significant difference between pre and post therapy tumour size, being decreased in post therapy images.
