Nurses awareness regarding care of pregnant women with hepatitis c Virus

Abstract


Objective: to assess nurses' knowledge and attitude regarding care of pregnant woman with hepatitis c virus.
Methods: This descriptive study was carried out at obstetrics and gynecology hospital- Ain Shams University, from March 2012 to May 2012. Two tools of data collection were used: structure interview questionnaire and Likart attitude scale, purposeful sample of total number of 47 nurses completed the study.
Results: nurses' mean age was 37.2+ 7.23, only 10.6% of studied nurses' had complete knowledge regarding care of pregnant women with hepatitis c. 53.2% of nurses acquired their information from mass media. Nurses showed negative attitude in care of pregnant woman with hepatitis c that 42.6% of nurses had negative attitude.
Conclusion: The study findings reflect that there is lack of knowledge and negative attitude as regard care of pregnant women with hepatitis c among studied nurses. Training courses and seminars must be conducted for nurses about hepatitis c, and specific care of women with hepatitis c.
