“ASSESSMENT OF GROUNDWATER POTENTIAL AND AQUIFER CHARACTERISTICS USING GEOMAGNETIC AND GEOELECTRICAL DATA AROUND WADI GHWEIBBA AREA, NORTH EAST OF THE EASTERN DESERT, EGYPT”
Mahmoud Shehata Sharkawi Ahmed;
Abstract
The north eastern part of the Eastern Desert is considered as one of the most important vital areas in Egypt because it includes the national industrial project area. The area of study lies around the Wadi Ghweibba area in the north eastern part of the Eastern Desert, Egypt. It covers an area of about 66.3 km2 and lies between longitudes 32o 13′ 29″ and 32o 19′ 17″ E and latitudes 29o 37′ 23″ and 29o 40′ 42″ N. The different activities in this area depend mainly on the groundwater that is pumped intensively from different water-bearing formations or aquifers. It should be noted that groundwater in the investigated area is used mainly for tourist and industrial purposes. The main purpose of the present study is to the assessment of groundwater potential and aquifer characteristics of the groundwater occurrences in the area of study. This goal is achieved by using different types of data from different sources (previous studies, meteorological data, Landsat satellite images, geological, geomorphological studies, etc., geophysical methods, especially resistivity, magnetic, and well logging data, and also by the collecting groundwater samples from the available boreholes in the area of study.
