Pregnant women knowledge regarding junk food

Abstract


Background: The most obvious effect of eating junk food during pregnancy is excessive maternal weight gain. Also obesity which have many adverse outcomes, including labor and delivery complications, fetal and neonatal death, maternal hypertension and pre eclampsia, and gestational diabetes. The study aim was to assess the effect of junk food on pregnancy. A descriptive study included a purposive sample of 207 women with eating junk food on pregnancy from Ain Shams University Maternity Hospital. Three tools were used for data collection; structured-interviewing questionnaire sheet, junk food style assessment tool and pregnant follow up sheet. The results revealed that more half of the studied sample developed poor knowledge about effect of junk food on pregnancy , more than one third of the studied sample developed incorrect knowledge about junk food. and less than One third of women of the studied sample developed good knowledge about junk food .The study recommended that early detection of women with junk food & effective management strategies for preventing and dealing with junk food effect on our health, further researches on larger sample size & other to increase women awareness about junk food effect on pregnancy through educational programs & brochures.
