Abstract


Ureteroscopic lithotripsy is the gold standard treatment of ureter stones all over the world and one of the most commonly performed procedures, it is minimally invasive and has been shown to be effective for the majority of urological stones. Nowadays, URSL for distal ureteral calculi as a first-line treatment since it provides higher success rates and quick stone clearance with minimal complications. The nurse is responsible for providing a professional, holistic patient care in order to ensure patient’s physical safety and psychological well being before, during and after ureteroscopic lithotripsy procedures to prevent any hazards or avoidable complications (Alabi , Jeje , Ogunjimi & Ojewola , 2019).
Ureteroscopy has been accepted as the treatment of choice for lower ureteric stones, with stone clearance in up to 80% to 100% of cases. Treatment with ureteroscopy using a variety of ureteroscopes and intracorporeal lithotripsy devices reveals success rates ranging from 86% to 100%. (Darakh , Ramesh & Doshi , 2019). In Egypt, the incidence of ureteroscopic lithotrip procedures in urosurgical department and ureteroscopic unit at Damanhour Medical National Institute were approximately 720 procedures through the year 2019.
