Utilization of Some Egyptian Limestone as Ornamental Stones and Coarse Aggregates

Ahmed Abou Bakr Omar Badr;

Abstract

The present work focuses on the mineralogical characteristics, physico-mechanical, chemical properties and durability of some Egyptian limestone. It was carried out to investigate their utilization as ornamental stones, concrete coarse aggregates. Also, the study extended to involve the utilization of some Egyptian limestone quarry wastes to produce artificial ornamental stones (AOS).
Representative Egyptian limestone samples have been collected from Northern Galala Plateau (FG & SG), Wadi Askhr El-Qebly area (ASK), Saint Anthony area (SA) and Western El-Minia area (MW & MC). As well as, the collected limestone samples from El-Korymat area (KO) and SA samples were evaluated together to produce (AOS). Various laboratory techniques were used to achieve the aim of this study. The obtained results were interpreted to ensure the suitability of the studied limestone samples as ornamental stones in civil engineering and constructions applications, coarse aggregates in concrete and for manufacturing artificial ornamental stones (AOS).
The experimental results of the studied carbonate aggregate samples shed more light on the qualification of its using as ornamental stones in the civil engineering field and for manufacturing artificial ornamental stones.
