Abstract
People with special needs are considered a category of society that represents at least (10%) of it, and his disability, whether acquired or his children, affects the disabled person and his family, so the family faces emotional and behavioral changes and psychological, social and economic pressures. The challenge that stands before psychological counseling is facing stress Psychological and marital conflicts, depression and psychological isolation that appear among families with special needs, and from here it is necessary to discuss the emotions resulting from the presence of a disabled child, the mechanism of coping with it, and how to provide counseling services to the individual and the family as a whole.
The family's reactions to disability appear in the form of emotions and behaviors that usually begin with a feeling of shock and start through the family's inability to deal with the new situation and then the denial stage, which is the inability of the parents to believe that what is happening is an effective reality, then the family goes through a state of guilt where it believes The family is the reason for the emergence of the child's disability, whether due to the lack of follow-up of the child's condition or the neglect of the mother's health, then the family goes through a state of sadness, depression, loss of hope, despair and fear for the child's future, then the family goes through a state of anger, whether towards oneself or others, after that it goes through a state of compromise, surrender and coexistence with the situation (Suleiman Al-Rihani, Ibrahim Rizeigat, Adel Tanous, 2010)
