Normal Morphological Variations Of Lymphocytes

Mary Roshdi Nasralla;

Abstract

The normal adult human body contains on the order of a trillion (10)' Lymphocytes, most of which appear virtually identical (Daniel P. Stites, 1994). There are three different sizes of lymphocytes which are small (6-10 gm), large (14-20m) and intermediate (10•
14m) (Smetena et al., 1981).
Atypical lymphocytes are large, irrigular cells, range in size from that of a large normal lymphocyte to greater than 30 m. Its nuclear and cytoplasmic mass are both increased, contributing to the overall size
increase (Denise, 1992).
The objectives of the study are :
# 1. To elucidate the presence of atypical lymphocytes circulating in
the peripheral blood of normal individuals,
2.
To obtain the level of atypical lymphocytes in normal Egyptian
individuals above which a disease is suspected and further
investigations may be required.
fie
3. To statistically correlate the atypical lymphocytes to other leucocytes in the peripheral blood.
