Nursing Guidelines for Reducing Marital Problems among Women Suffering from Urinary Incontinence

Abstract
Background: Urinary incontinence is a common condition, which reported prevalence ranging from 28 to 47% in women during midlife. Although urinary incontinence is not a life-threatening disease, but can also affect social, psychological familial occupational, physical and sexual aspects on women's lives. Aims: To evaluate the effect of nursing guidelines for reducing marital problems among women suffering from urinary incontinence. Methods: Quasi experimental design was used. Setting: At uro-gynecology unit at Ain Shams Maternity University Hospital. Sample type: A purposive sample was used sample criteria composed of women age ranged from 20-45 years, married, diagnosed with UI, and free from chronic disease that attended uro-gynecology unit. Sample size: The study sample was composed of 76 women who were attending the previous mentioned setting. Tools: Interview questionnaire sheet, kings health questionnaire, voiding diary, observational checklist, follow up card and women's opinionnaire were used to collect data. Results: Findings of the present study showed that about two thirds of women were housewives, about more than one third at preparatory school and most of them with normal delivery, more than one third had four times births, more than two thirds taking diuretic drinks and most of them not taking medications for UI. Most of women leaking urine during sex, waking up to urinate after go to sleep and leakage of urine during cough, laugh and sneeze. Conclusion: The result of the study was supported the study hypothesis in which nursing guidelines reduced marital problems among women suffering from urinary incontinence, knowledge and practice of the study group improved significantly then control group. Recommendations: Performing training programmes for improving women awareness about urinary incontinence and sexual life.
