Abstract


The present study included 72 patients with

-locally advanced and histologically proved squamous cell carcinomas of the larynx and laryngopharynx, (40 patients had cancer larynx and 32 patients had laryngopharyngeal carcinoma) treated in radiation oncology and Nuclear Medicine Department, Ain Shams University Hospitals (ASRNOMD) from January 1996 till August 2001.

All patients were subjected to CBC, Bun, creatinine level, CXR, CT neck, biopsy and ELISA
detection of the bFGF in the sera.

The patients were treated with sequential versus

alternating chemotherapy with accelerated hyperfractionation radiotherapy. Patients in group A
received 3 cycles of chemotherapy 5-Fu and cisplatin,
one cycle every 21 days. Accelerated radiation therapy 5
started 10 days from the first day of the third course of chemotherapy for a total dose of 63 Gy.
