Abstract


During the recent decades, environmental pollution occupied world wide, as a result of rapid industrial and economic
development. Although environmentally related diseases are by definition preventable, yet they continue to impose major economic and human costs on the society of developed countries.
In present study, estimation of cadmium and lead in whole blood and their effect on metabolic changes of both vitamins C and E in serum were investigated in pregnant women living in three environmental areas. In addition serum copper, selenium, zinc and iron in complicated pregnant women were also studied
in comparison with the corresponding nonnal values. Liver and
kidney functions in these cases were also demonstrated.
The materials of study included a number of 78 pregnant women admitted the delivery ward of Bab El-Sharia Teaching Hospital (urban area) and 68 pregnant women were selected from
Bolakk El-Dakror General Hospital (rural area) as well as 64
pregnant women from Naser General Hospital, Shaubra El-Khima (industrial .area). The pregnant women in each area were divided into 5 groups
