USING SOME ORGANIC HOUSE WASTE ON GREEN ROOF
Khaled Nasr Eldin Mohamed Shaaban;
Abstract
Four experiments of current study were carried out during three years 2014, 2015 and 2016 through 2 seasons each year (summer seasons of 2014 and 2015 included tomato and molokhia while Strawberry and spinach in autumn seasons of 2015 and 2016) on the roof at Central Laboratory for Agriculture Climate (CLAC), Agriculture Research Centre, Egypt.
The objectives of the four experiments investigate the possibility of using vermicompost (produced from organic urban waste via vermicomposting process) as a substrate amendment in different proportions combined with different sources of nutrient solutions (chemical, vermi-liquid and chemical + vermi-liquid) in producing Tomato, strawberry, Molokhia and spinach on top-roof garden under urban horticulture.
The substrate mixtures
1) Perlite (100V) (Control)
2) Perlite: vermicompost (90:10) (Mix.10%)
3) Perlite: vermicompost (80:20) (Mix.20%)
4) Perlite: vermicompost (70:30) (Mix.30%)
The nutrient solutions sources
1) Chemical solution
2) Vermi- liquid
