ABEER IBRAHIM IBRAHIM;

Abstract

This thesis was carried out to study the level of Hey in siblings of patients with
CAD in an attempt to use it as an early predictor of the development of coronary
atherosclerosis. It was performed on 50 subjects categorized as follows:
Thirty-five healthy offsprings of patients with angiographically documented coronary heart disease. They were 24 males and 11 females, with their age ranging from 20 to 50 years (mean of29 years).
Fifteen apparently healthy individuals 10 males, 5 females, with their age
$ ranging from 20 to 41 years (mean of 26 years).
All the subjects (cases and controls) were not risky i.e. non smoker, not diabetic and not hypertensive.
Serum and plasma samples were obtained from the cases and control subjects
after 14- hour fasting.
All subjects were subjected to the following investigations:
1- Total plasma homocysteine by enzyme immunoassay (EIA).
e 2- Plasma folic acid by Radio- lmmuno assay (RIA)
3- Serum blood glucose.
4- Serum creatinine.
5- Serum triglycrides.
6- Serum total cholesterol.
7- Serum HDL-C.
8- Serum LDL-C
