RHD is the persistent damage to heart valves resulting in mitral and/or aortic regurgitation, or in long-standing cases stenosis, that remains as a result of acute rheumatic fever with rheumatic carditis. Rheumatic heart disease is a squeal of rheumatic fever which affects heart valves, and can result in heart failure and death if left untreated (Susan, et al, 2019).
According to World Health Rankings rheumatic heart diseases are one of the most leading causes of death in Egypt come in the 35 position. According to the latest WHO data published in 2017 Rheumatic heart diseases in Egypt reached 1, 976 or 0, 38% of total deaths. The age adjusted death rate is 2.69 per100, 000 of population ranks Egypt #84 in the world (Abul-Fadl, et al, 2018).
RHD is a national issue in Egypt and is being given priority by the Egyptian MOHP under the auspices of all the experts and leaders concerned. The national RHD prevention and control program was established in 2006 through the RHD center in Mahalla El-Koubra province, in collaboration with the WHO-Egypt. It was expanded in 2010–2014 to include 30 RHD primary care centers covering the country and are linked to tertiary-level of care cardiac centers. The ultimate goal is to reduce mortality from RHD and declare Egypt free of ARF by 2030 (Ghamrawy, 2020).
