Abstract

Child with intellectual disabilities affects not only the parents, but also siblings and the relationships among the family members and causing positive and negative perception of this family (Chourasiya, Baghel, Kale & Verma, 2018). The nature of stress has been shown to span over several aspects of family life such as daily care demands, emotional distress (e.g., maternal depression), interpersonal difficulties (e.g., parental discord), financial problems and adverse social consequences (e.g., social isolation).
Caring for a child with intellectual disabilities combine ideas of both the ‘burden’ and stress entailed as well as its positive aspects. For example, although (Emerson and Hatton, 2014) found evidence of family caregiver strain, they also found that most family caregivers were satisfied with their lives, used positive coping strategies, and had realistic expectations for their children and their future. So that this study aim to, assess perception and experiences of family caregivers having children with mental retardation
The aim of this study was:
Assess the perception and experiences of family caregivers having children with mental retardation.
