Three-Dimensional Echocardiographic Evaluation of Right Ventricular Volumes and Functions in Normal Egyptian Children

Sherif Lotfy Wahba Hindy;

Abstract

he aim of our study was to establish normal reference values for right ventricle assessment by three-dimensional Echocardiography in Egyptian children age 6 to 12 years.
Our Study included 450 normal healthy Egyptian children who were referred for right ventricular function evaluation by 2 dimensional (2DE) and 3 dimensional echocardiography (3DE). Out of these 450 patients, 435 (96%) subjects had good echogenic window and were feasible for assessment by the GE 4D Auto RVQ software for analysis.
The subjects included in our study were 229 females (52.6%) and 206 males (47.4%), age ranging from 6 to 12 years with mean age of 9.478 years. The subjects’ body surface area ranged from 0.74 to 1.57m2 with a mean BSA of 1.153m2.
Subjects were subdivided into 2 subgroups. Group 1 included 177 subjects, 93 females (52.6%) and 84 males (47.4%) with age range from 11 to 12 years with mean age of 11.6 years and with a mean BSA of 1.344m2. Group 2 included 258 subjects, 136 females (52.7%) and 122 males (47.3%) with age range from 6 to 10 years with mean age of 8 years and with a mean BSA of 1.022m2.
The normal ranges of absolute and BSA-indexed values of RV volumes and RV EF were measured and percentile curves were plotted against different age groups for boys and girls.
