Biochemical Studies on Microbial L-Asparaginase and Its Use in Chemotherapy
Hanan Maher Ahmed Ibrahim Abo-Stait;
Abstract
The present study aimed to produce highly active microbial L-asparaginase (L-ASP) enzyme and use it in some important biological activities. Eight recommended microbial isolates were screened for L-ASP production (three bacteria and five fungi). The bacterial isolates Bacillus subtilis, Escherichia coli and Pseudomonas aeuroginosa were provided from Microbiology Department, Faculty of Science, Ain Shams University, Egypt. While, the fungal isolates, Aspergillus niger, Aspergillus oryzae, Asperigllus terreus and Penicillium sp. were provided from the Culture Collection Centre of the National Research Centre, Egypt. The fungal strain Penicillium janthinellum Biourge was isolated from Agricultural soil in Zagazig City, Al Sharqiyah Governorate, Egypt and completely identified by prof.Dr.Gamal Eldin Helal of the Microbiology Department, Faculty of Science, Zagazig University, Egypt, according to macroscopic and microscopic morphological criteria in accordance with Domsch et al. (1980).
The present study could be summarized as follows:
1) Screening of eight recommended microorganisms for the production of an extracellular L-ASP enzyme was carried out. Of all the tested microorganisms, Penicillium janthinellum Biourge afforded the highest L-ASP enzyme production
