Abstract

epsis remains a major cause of morbidity and mortality during the first year of life. Sepsis is the sixth leading cause of death among neonates and the eighth leading cause of death for infants during the first year of life.
CVCs are increasingly used in critically ill neonates for administering medication or parenteral nutrition and when long-term vascular access is needed and peripheral vascular access is not an option. These catheters are inserted in umbilical veins, major central veins.
CLABSI are common healthcare-associated infections that can lead to longer hospital stays and increased healthcare costs.
Care Bundles, defined as a limited number of specific practices each essential for effective and safe patient care and that, when implemented together, result in additional improvements in patient outcomes have been shown to reduce the threat of CLABSIs.
Our study aimed to evaluate the efficacy of care bundles in reducing CLABSI in NICU.
This study is an interventional study. it was carried out over 9 months duration, the pre-bundle period was 5 months in duration from July 1, 2019, to November 31, 2019 and the post-bundle period was over 4 months in duration from December 1, 2020, to March 31, 2020.136 neonates admitted in Neonatal Intensive Care Units (NICUs) of Ain-Shams University hospitals were enrolled in the present study, the pre-bundle group included 66 neonates and the post-bundle group included 70 neonates.
