Abstract


Value Engmeering is a proven management technique using a systematized approach to eek out the best functional balance between the cost. reliability and performance of a project or product. It was briefly defined as "A Sy/ematie approach for obtaining optimum value for every dollar spent." Although this technique was applied successfully over the past three decades in the manufacturing industry. it had to be modified and integrated with other new or existing approaches in order to achieve the same success in the constntctio udustr
In this research. many of these proposed approaches are discussed in fair detail to illustrate their intertwining effect with Value Engineering in order to reach the optimum value for a construction project.
Some of the proposed approaches are : Constructibility Analysis. or simply
fonstructibilit. Partnering. and artificial intelligence through the application of an expetl system developed specially for trhis purpose
.\ field study was conducted in the fer of a questionnaire addredded to different project parties in different project stages, in order to assess their main functions and interests in the project
Two case studies related to the tourism development industry were also included te show the effect of the application of Value Engineenng principles and techniques on the final outcome of the construction project
