Abstract
The clear corneal incision during phaco-ernulsification is one
of the most common surgical procedures being utilized today. It
I'
always gives good results in management of corneal astigmatism
after planning of proper site and size of the wound according to
nature of pre-existing corneal astigmatism. So this prospective, descriptive study was conducted to evaluate changes in corneal astigmatism after using clear corneal incision.
Clear corneal incision was performed in 35 selected eyes with corneal astigmatism ranges from (1.50 - 3.75) 0.- In this study, keratometry and corneal topography were used in measurement of corneal astigmatism and determination of its axis in those eyes. The readings were taken before and after the procedure and the patients were followed up to six months of the 1'1 postoperative day, 1'1
postoperative week, 1'1 postoperative month, 3rd postoperative
• month and the 611' postoperative month.
There was significant improvement of corneal astigmatism after 6 months of follow up using clear corneal incision, on the
steepest 1eridian especially on the temporal side of the cornea.
There was statistically significant correlation among the preoperative amount of astigmatism, its axis, and the postoperative
