STUDIES ON CHARACTERISTICS AND MECHANICS OF SOIL OF THE1st DISTRICT IN THE 6th OF OCTOBER CITY

Abstract

Three soil samples were obtained from the first district at the sixth of October City. Chemical and geotechnical properties of the soil samples were determined before and after immersion, for different periods, in distilled water, Hydrochloric..acid (HC)) aqueous solution, concentrated and diluted Magnesium sulphate solutions (Mg$04). The effect of the immersion period of one week, one month, and three months was investigated. Screen analysis of each sample before and after immersion in different media was determined experimentally. It has been found that in case of distilled water, as immersion media, the cumulative fraction particles finer than 0.06 mm increases with increasing immersion period up to three. months. The percentage of fine particles is higher in case of samples immersed in either diluted HCl acid solution or MgSO¢ aqueous solutions. Subsequent washing with water of immersed samples results in much higher percentage of fines. Three soil samples were obtained from the first district at the sixth of October City.
