Comparative study between invasive and non-invasive methods for achievement of open infarct related artery following acute myocardial infarction

Tarek El-Kholy;

Abstract

Two-centres study was conducted on 68 patients; 26 patients had primary PTCA (15 patients had acute stent deployment), 37 patients had thrombolytic therapy.
The current study compared two groups (first group is PTCA with stenting, and PTCA alone), the second group received thrombolytic therapy
[SK]), where we achieved TIMI flow of 2.42±0.95 in the first group and
0.7±0.8 in the thrombolytic group, with mean hospital stay of 102±43 hours in the first two groups, and 133.5±22 hours in the thrombolytic group.
The current study compatred 2 groups: Primary PTCA group show reinfarction of 3.8% (one patient) versus 8.1 % (3 patients) in the SK group, stroke of 0% versus 2.3% (one patient), heart failure 7.6% ( 2 patients) versus
8.1% (3 patients), inhospital mortality 3.8% (one patient) versus 5.4% ( 2 patients), and follow up mortality 3.8% (one patient) versus 2.7% (one patient) with requirement of revascularization was 7 .2% (2 patients) versus
53% (20 patients) respectively.
