INVESTIGATIONS ON PROBLEMS OF VACCINATION OF DOGS AGAINST SOME INFECTIOUS DISEASES
HEMMAT SOLIMAN EL-EMAM EL-SHAMY;
Abstract
The present study spots the light on dog vaccination against rabies, canine distemper and canine Parvo viral infection under the influence of some factors. It includes the investigation of some effects of single, bivalent and trivalent vaccination of dogs with the three vaccines in addition to the immunostimulant and immunosuppressive drugs and other conditions like tick infestation and malnutrition.
The designed experiments included 70 puppies of about 5-8 months old, divided into 14 groups (5 animals in each).
The experimental results showed that:
I-Rabies, canine distemper and canine parvo vaccines induced good levels of specific immunity in vaccinated animals under normal health conditions as demonstrated by SNT, ELISA and serum protein estimation.
2-There was no antagonizing effect between any of the used vaccines on the immune response of vaccinated dogs to the other, either when given in a bivalent or trivalent forms resulted also in good levels of immunity.
3-Single, bivalent or trivalent vaccination of test dogs under normal conditions resulted in a protection of I 00% as the obtained results of challenge test against virulent strains of rabies (in mice), canine distemper and canine Parvo (in dogs).
4-Levamisol and Act-plus enhanced the immune response of healthy dogs vaccinated with the three vaccines.
5-Tetracycline and Berenil treatment resulted in lower levels of induced
antibodies in animals vaccinated simultaneously with rabies, canine distemper and canine Parvo vaccines
