HistopathologicalStudy of Endometrial Stromal and Vascular Changes in Dusfunctional Uterine Bleeding
Amany Ibrahim Abd El-Rahman Selmy;
Abstract
It is not astonishing that an increasing number of females .suffer from uterine bleeding during their reproductive life. Structural changes in the endometrial stromal blood vessels play a role in the mechanism of the uterine bleeding.
No conclusive studies had been done on the local factors that could be responsible for bleeding, including the vascular and stromal factor and haemostatic events in dysfunctional uterine bleeding. Ultimately the local factors responsible for excessive menstrual loss still remain a matter for conjecture.
The aim of the present work was to study the stromal factor including the vascular changes occurring in cases with • DUB and - correlate them to different endometrial diagnostic categories in cases with DUB.
In this study, endometrial biopsy was taken from 48 female
patients diagnosed as DUB.
The age of the studied cases ranged from 35-51 years.
Endometrial hyperplasia was the most common microscopic

finding in cases with DUB (37.5%) followed by irregular shedding of the
endometrium (29.1 %), then disturbed proliferative endometrium (27 .1 %), and atrophic endometrium was the least frequent finding (6.2%).

As regards stromal and vascular changes, dilatation of stromal vessels was the most common vascular change, occurring in 58.4% of the cases.imostly among cases with disturbed proliferative endometrium.
Perivascular fibrosis occurred in 33.3% of cases, mostly in cases
with disturbed proliferative endometrium.

Muscle hyperplasia of the vessel wall was found in 29 .2% of
