NUMERICAL INVESTIGATION EFFECT OF WATER SPRINKLERS SYSTEM ON SMOKE MANAGEMENT IN ROAD TUNNELS WITH AND WITHOUT VENTILATION

Ashraf Mahmoud Abdo Mohamed;

Abstract

The current work is to study the effect of using water sprinklers on the smoke spread inside vehicle tunnels without using a ventilation system and with using a ventilation system. also, tenability criteria conditions are examined at the human level with the use of the FDS program version 2019. all case studies were simulated for 300 seconds, and the results were stabilized after this time. It was used to predict various parameters such as temperature, smoke spread, visibility, and carbon monoxide concentrations. Eleven cases were made; cases 1, 2, 3, and 4 are carried out with a power of 30 MW and 50 MW using only water sprinklers activation, case 5 uses at heat release rates of 30 MW activation the ventilation system only cases 6, 7, 8, 9, 10, and 11 use at heat release rates of 30 MW and 50 MW, with the two systems are activated together ( the ventilation system and the water sprinklers system )with a different number activation of water sprinklers and different flow rates also to study the extent of its impact on extracting air outside the tunnel and achieving the tenability criteria conditions
