Abstract
l)iabetes mellitus was incriminated in causing and/or aggravating chest troubles and pulmonary function
derangement.
The aim of this work is to study the health effects of exposure to cotton dust on the respiratory system of diabetic workers in a trial to evaluate the fitness of diabetic workers for dusty occupations in an endeovur to suggest recommendations for preplacement and periodic medical examination of diabetics in cotton dusty occupations.
This cross-sectional study involving 400 male workers randomly selected from one of the cotton textile factory in Alexandria. This sample was equally divided into four groups (n= 100) according to exposure to cotton dust and diabetic state, namely Diabetic- Exposed (DE), Diabetic-Yon Exposed (DYE), Yon Diabetic Exposed (YDE) and Non Diabetic Non Exposed (YDYE).
Exposed workers were randomly selected from preliminary processes of cotton industry e.g. opening bales
derangement.
