The Role of High Yielding Varieties and new Agrotechniques for improvement Oil crops Productivity in Ismailia Government

ANNUAL PROGRESS REPORT;

Abstract

It is worthy to mention that the present project is being taken under three systems of irrigation, namely surface, sprinkler and drip irrigation systems with three experimental plots under each system (each about 2/3
faddan) for conducting the proposed studies for the three oil crops;
peanut, sesame and sunflower within a particular crop rotation under each system of irrigation. The experimental works of the project under the three systems have started in winter season 1998/1999. Three semi-annul reports as well as two annual reports have been submitted to the FRCU, Supreme Council of the Egyptian Universities. The following achievements were performed during the year March 2000 - March 2001

IIA- HARVESTING OF WINTER VEGETABLE CROPS
Peas had been sown 11/10/1999, 21/10/1999 and 30/10/1999 under sprinkler, surface and drip irrigation respectively. Picking of green pods weekly had been conducted since first of January 2000, 22" January 2000 and 23" January 2000 for peas grown under sprinkler, surface and drip irrigation systems respectively. Picking continued to 21/3 for peas grown under drip irrigation, to 26/3 under sprinkler irrigation and to 3 April
2000 under surface irrigation. Meanwhile, 6 pods samples were taken every two weeks from peas under each irrigation system to estimate shelling percentage, number of seeds/pod, DM% contents in total pods and seeds. Table (1) indicates the data collected. Surface irrigation resulted relatively the largest pods as expressed by pods weight and
number and weight of seeds per pod. That was followed by the pods
resulted under drip irrig. and sprinkler irrigation. However, the reverse
was true concerning shelling percentage, where sprinkler irrigation
