Abstract

Greening of roofs of buildings has taken venue throughout history. The causes behind it were the boost of insulation (keep cold out in winter and keep cool in summer), improving aesthetics, improving indoor and outdoor climate, rising ecological values through creating habitats for birds and insects, and reduction of the greenhouse gases like Nitrogen Dioxide (NO2) Carbon Dioxide (CO2) and, Carbon Monoxide (CO).
Recently, the space quality climate has got attention between urban designers and climatologist all over the world, particularly afterwards Urban Heat Island (UHI) occurrence phenomena and the global climate change. The contributing factors for creating thermally uncomfortable spaces are the lack of an effective pattern of landscape, on levels of planning and prompt urbanization. This warn designers and urban planners to urgently take in consideration that designing the landscape, especially plantation, as an integral role in an overall planning framework. Respectively this combines natural environment and urban environment. The result of this integration is achieving thermally comfortable spaces, and aesthetically pleasing space. Also, for those who wish to use the outdoor space an excessive noise and glare reduction.
This paper describes that not only using green roofs and landscape can save energy in buildings, but also it have an environmental, social and aesthetic benefits.
Green roofs attend a number of aims for any building, like absorbing providing insulation, rainwater, making a habitat for wildlife, growing benevolence and reducing stress of the persons nearby the roof by providing additional pleasing beautifully landscape, and assisting to lower temperatures of urban air and lessen the heat island impact.
The simple act of planting a tree can result in energy savings. Planting the right tree in the right place is the key to saving energy with trees. Landscape trees adjust urban temperatures by forming shade onto buildings and manmade ground covers. Several civic tree planting programs have given emphasis to tree shade for energy saving. Shade from trees reduces air conditioning needs and makes non-air conditioned homes more comfortable. Trees can also reduce energy use for heating by blocking cold winter winds.
