Abstract

Water supply is vital for the development of communities so the main object of the present work is the study of the water resources in arid and semiarid regions such as Halaib-Shalatin area, southeastern part of the Eastern Desert where water scarcity is the main problem. The development of new Settlements and domestic infrastructures require reliable and accurate information about natural water resources especially flash floods in the study area. It is bounded by latitudes 22° 4' and 23° 52' N and longitudes 34° 15' and 35° 32' E parallel to the Red Sea. The study area occupies about 12635.1 Km2.
The present works consist of seven chapters deal with several items which represent the main controlling factors on the water resource such as geomorphologic features, geologic setting, soil characteristics, hydromorphometric analysis, Climatic condition, runoff estimation, hydrogeologic condition, hydrochemical characteristics and quality evaluation of surface and groundwater.
Geomorphologically, the studied area is divided into the following six main geomorphic units; Red sea coast, the Red Sea mountainous area, th
