Abstract

Muscle injuries are a very common musculoskeletal problem encountered in sports medicine. Although the skeletal muscle can respond efficiently to environmental changes, the regenerative capacity of injured skeletal muscle is limited especially in laceration injuries. PRP contains beneficial growth factors for injured skeletal muscle repair. However, it also can increase the level of TGF-β1 that can cause fibrosis, inhibiting optimal muscle healing. Los is a well-known antihypertensive drug that antagonizes TGF-β1, thus might optimize muscle healing.
This study aimed to assess the effect of PRP injection alone or combined with oral Los on skeletal muscle healing after experimentally induced laceration in skeletal muscle of adult male albino rats.
The experiment was conducted on 95 adult male albino rats with a weight range of 200-250 grams. Another 20 adult male rats (200-250 grams) were used as blood donors for PRP preparation. The 95 rats were divided into five groups as follows:
Group I (Control group): it consisted of 30 rats. They were equally subdivided into two subgroups
