Abstract

Chronic liver disease refers to on-going inflammation in the liver for at least 6 months with the potential to progress to cirrhosis and end-stage liver disease. It involves a spectrum of conditions that includes chronic hepatitis and cirrhosis. Herbs, which are well known for their long history of proven therapy of various diseases with low cost and few side effects, have potentials in the treatment of Chronic liver disease.
Therefore, the aim of the study was to investigate the beneficial effects of some beverage rich in chlorogenic acid like green coffee, roasted coffee, green tea and black tea on serum glucose, liver function, kidney function, histopathology and serum lipoproteins of rats suffering from chronic liver damage induced with carbon tetrachloride.
Experiment design

Rats were housed 7 per cage with wood shave bedding and were fed standard basal diet as reported and water ad libitum. The experimental protocols were approved and carried out according to the local experimental ethics committee.
